11. - 13.07.2018 I Project Area Meeting in Kerkrade

The aim of the meeting is the presentation of the status of the CRC1316 project. Our special guests this year are Luis Alves and Antonio Tejero from IST Lisboa. They will talk about "The LisbOn KInetics (LoKI) computational tool" on Thursday. In addition, the status of the CRC's subprojects will be finally adopted. This meeting is obligatory for all CRC members. If you would like to bring someone in addition, inform us till 01.06.2018.

04.07. - 07.07.2018 I RUB Japan Science Days

From July 4 - 7 2018, top researchers, presidents, vice presidents and executives from university management and administration from the University of Tokyo, Osaka University, the University of Tsukuba and RUB meet to promote the fruitful exchange among them. The RUB Japan Science Days will be each devoted to a guiding topic of high societal relevance that offers multi- and transdisciplinary approaches to teaching, research and transfer. This year - honoring a topic that is presently hotly debated in Japan and also in Germany - the Science Days are devoted to "Society 5.0 - Chances and Risks of Digital Transformation and the Responsibility of Universities".

Furthermore, a framework program from the RUB is allocated for the Japanese guests to learn more about science in Bochum and the Ruhr area in general.

12.06.2018 I Crash Course Surface Science

In this course lectures are intended to guide you trough the "acronym jungle" encountered in Surface Science and catalyst characterization and to make you familiar with the basic concepts of heterogeneous catalysis and the application of heterogeneous catalysts in continuously operated chemical reactors.

It will take place on Tuesday, June 12, in our seminar room (NBCF 04/679, Technische Chemie). You'll find it in between NB and NC on level 04 in the south close to physics. Please register by email to Alicia Gonzalez (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

6.6.2018 I Plasma Crash Course

This block course intends to provide a basic understanding of low temperature plasma physics and technology to the surface scientists of the SFB 1316. Other interested SFB members, students, and external scientists are welcome to join as well.
The workshop will be done online via Adobe Connect at no cost. Registration for the workshop is mandatory. The registration deadline is May 29th 2018. The workshop will only take place, if more than five people register. To register, please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. Streamer mechanism is one of the main ionisation mechanisms in highpressure plasma jets, pulsing coronas or barrier discharges. In atmospheric air, it is an ultra-fast process which produces a light emission or current pulses with duration of only several units of nanoseconds. In such challenging case, an enhanced diagnostic method has to be applied.
