Prof. Dr. Achim von Keudell at TEDx

Prof. Achim von Keudell had the honour to join the TEDx event on 19th May 2018 in Bochum with a 15 minutes talk. His TEDx Talk "Extreme Plasmas for Extreme Materials" is about his current field of study the controlling and taming of these extreme plasmas, which will form the basis for future material synthesis. The overarching topic of the event was "Changing Perspectives". Only 200 tickets for the audience were available.

TEDx is a worldwide offspring of the TEDx conference series. The range of topics of the TEDx event was extremly broad covering societal and scientific challenges of the future. The video of the presentation is available here.

04.07. - 07.07.2018 I RUB Japan Science Days

From July 4 - 7 2018, top researchers, presidents, vice presidents and executives from university management and administration from the University of Tokyo, Osaka University, the University of Tsukuba and RUB meet to promote the fruitful exchange among them.

The RUB Japan Science Days will be each devoted to a guiding topic of high societal relevance that offers multi- and transdisciplinary approaches to teaching, research and transfer. This year - honoring a topic that is presently hotly debated in Japan and also in Germany - the Science Days are devoted to "Society 5.0 - Chances and Risks of Digital Transformation and the Responsibility of Universities".

Furthermore, a framework program from the RUB is aocated for the Japanese guests to learn more about science in Bochum and the Ruhr area in general.

Surface Science Crash Course

On Tuesday, June 12th, 2018, a surface science crash course took place at the RUB for all interested SFB members. Finally, more than 20 people joined the event, in which Prof. Morgenstern and Prof. Muhler from the faculty of chemistry gave an introduction to the basis knowledge about surface science, which is elementary in their research field. The course had the intention to intensify the collaboration between the projects within the SFB 1316 by bringing all members to the same basis of knowledge.

IS Plasma Price for Uwe Czarnetzki

At the International Plasma Symposium (ISPlasma) at the Meijo University in Nagoya / Japan, this year's ISPlasma Prize was awarded to Prof. U. Czarnetzki

ISPlasma / IC-PLANTS is an international symposium that brings together some 1,000 of the world's leading scientists and engineers in the Nagoya area of Japan to discuss recent advances in advanced plasma research and applications for the processing and production of nitrides and nanomaterials as new systems for to discuss the technology transfer. The symposium address topics such as global warming, resources and energy issues that can be greatly enhanced by modern plasma research and its application technologies. Biosensor technologies are also highlighted in this symposium for their increasing importance in health, food and the environment.
